White Fronted Goose - Islay of Islay

'Mios ro gach ràith a choltas'
A month before each season, its appearance comes

The White Fronted Goose which arrives from Greenland and is therefore referred to as the Greenland White Fronted Goose, sports a large white patch at the front of the head around the beak and big black bars on the belly. The legs are orange and Greenland birds have orange bills.
White Fronted Geese (Anser albifrons) arrive on the island around the first week in October and stay to at least 6 months to about April. A good place to see the geese in larger numbers would be the Gruinart area from October-March. Other sites include Loch Gorm, The Oa, Port Ellen Bay and The Rhinns
