'Mios ro gach ràith a choltas'
A month before each season, its appearance comes
Otters are fascinating creatures to watch. I have often sat on the shore as this agile creature chases and catches a flatfish, comes out the water to its favourite rock and devours its catch. On a still day you can hear the crunching sounds of the fish being eaten. Other times you will see the female with her cubs in tow as she trains them in the skills of foraging and survival. Seeing otters at first can be tricky and usually they look 'longer' in the water than a seal, who usually only has its head above water. The otter however, exposes more of its back to the surface.
