Linnet - Islay of Islay

'Mios ro gach ràith a choltas'
A month before each season, its appearance comes

The linnet (Carduelis Cannabina) is a delightful bird, pretty and with a song so melodious they were kept indoors in cages in days gone by. Linnets usually twitter through their undulating flight. Part of the finch family, they eat seeds and insects and so are happy to live on Islay.

You can see linnets on heathland, rough ground, hedges and saltmarshes; not so much on the uplands or hills.
