The victorian loom on which the Islay Tartan is made at the Islay Woollen Mill

"Meal is caith e!"
Enjoy and wear it

Once " discovered " Islay is never forgotten and we all want to take away a lasting keepsake of our unique impressions, both for ourselves and as gift to others.

Whether it be drinkable, edible, wearable or ornamental what we choose serves to remind us of a special place, a special mood and to re-live special moments; it may be a glance at the tantalising amber glow of our favourite malt as it sits, pride of place on the shelf, tempting depletion; it may be a long gaze into a moment captured at Kildalton Cross or on the vast stretch of Machir Beach.

Each village, each beauty spot on Islay has its own charm and attraction and as every visitor to the island will know the natural beauty between one port of call and another is as diverse, colourful and as memorable as the destination itself. Remember the piercing blue sea along coastal roads, the wild stretches of purple heather carpeting the hills inland, the streaks of vibrant yellow blossoming wild gorse and the endless shades of green as far as the eye can see.

All these stunning highly evocative colours, carefully chosen to represent the natural landscape of the island have been beautifully assembled by Gordon Covell of the Islay Woollen Mill to produce the new " Discover Islay " tartan.

With its warm harmonious, natural tones evenly balanced proportions of purple, green, blue and yellow the end result is not only a constant and lasting reminder of Islay's natural beauty but is also a fashionable print design which will enhance any outfit or decor regardless of season.

We are proud to launch this exclusive new tartan at the Islay Show on 14th August. Look out for the " Discover Islay " marque , where the material will be on display for the first time with the opportunity of placing orders for a variety of accessories.
