'Mios ro gach ràith a choltas'
A month before each season, its appearance comes
The Gruinart Nature Reserve which includes a working farm is in the North-west of Islay. There are several habits from the flats, heath and wetlands, to mudflats and beaches. The reserve is open all year but the RSPB visitor centre is open from 10am-5pm. For wheelchair access to the hides and viewpoint information click here. Autumn sees the arrival of the White Fronted Geese in large numbers, densely packed flocks grazing in the grass. In Spring and Summer you can hear the corncrakes 'crake' and watch lapwings and butterflies swoop amongst the wild flowers in the meadow... and much more.
