'Mios ro gach ràith a choltas'
A month before each season, its appearance comes
King of birds, the Golden Eagle is a rare sight in most parts of Scotland, however there is a good chance you will spot an eagle on the wing on Islay if you know where to look as they are resident on Islay all year. The RSPB reserve at Loch Gruinart, the Oa and Kichoman have all provided recent sightings.
The Golden Eagle nests and breeds on rocky outcrops in mountainous country and on sea cliffs and nesting begins in March. They are best left alone at this critical time to produce their young so that future generations might enjoy this majestic creature in its habitat.
